There are over nine million expatriates from various countries, and their remittances make a significant contribution to the home countries' foreign exchange reserves.

In 2023, expatriates sent $27 billion in remittances back to their home countries. The largest expatriate communities are located in Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

To address the needs of this growing diaspora, the National Assembly and Senate of several countries have passed legislation to establish a special court for resolving property disputes involving their overseas citizens.
